Why Iris exists
Great glasses. Missing assistant.
Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses are sold across Europe, but their built-in assistant isn't available everywhere. In many EU countries, Czechia among them, Meta AI on the glasses is missing entirely. Where it is available, it may not speak your language or offer every feature.
Without it, the glasses are mostly headphones and a camera. Iris gives them a voice again: a real conversational AI that uses the glasses' microphone, speakers and camera, runs from your iPhone and works in any EU country.
How it works
No "Hey Meta". One button in your pocket.
Iris can't use the glasses' own "Hey Meta" wake word or touchpad; those belong to Meta. So it isn't always listening the way Meta AI is. Instead, you start it from your iPhone, which stays in your pocket:

Through your pocket, on a locked phone. No unlocking, no app to open.
Hear the tone, then ask
A rising double tone in your glasses means Iris is listening. Ask anything, in your language.
Hear the answer in your glasses
Follow up right away. When you're done, say "thanks, that's all" or just stay quiet and Iris goes back to sleep.
No Action button? Start Iris from Control Center, the Lock Screen, Siri or the app. Want it hands-free for a while? Choose a wake phrase such as "Hey Iris"; your iPhone recognizes it on the device.
What a conversation sounds like
A conversation, not commands.
Iris listens only to your voice at the glasses' microphone, not to the people or the TV around you. When you finish speaking it answers; if you want to add something, just keep talking.

What you need
Four things, set up in minutes.
The app is free during the beta. Conversations run on OpenAI's Realtime voice model with your own API key, so you pay OpenAI only for what you use: roughly €0.04–0.12 per minute of talking, about a cent for a quick question. Iris shows your spending.
- Meta glassesRay-Ban Meta, Ray-Ban Meta Optics or Oakley Meta, paired with your iPhone over Bluetooth.
- An iPhoneiOS 26 or later. The Action button (iPhone 15 Pro and newer) is the quickest way to start; any iPhone can use Control Center, the Lock Screen or Siri.

- The Meta AI appNeeded once, to let Iris use the glasses camera. Voice works without it.
Privacy
A microphone that knows when not to listen.
Iris has no accounts and no servers of its own. Audio goes to OpenAI only during a conversation you started, and the camera stays off until you ask about what you see.

- Never recorded or stored. With a wake phrase, your iPhone listens on the device until you address Iris.

- One photo per visual question, then the camera disconnects. Photos are saved only when you say so.

- Kept in your iPhone's Keychain and sent only to OpenAI, directly.

- Text only, on your iPhone. Turn it off or delete it any time.
FAQ
Questions people ask.
Does Iris replace Meta AI and "Hey Meta"?
No. "Hey Meta", the touchpad and the capture button stay with Meta. Iris runs alongside, through the glasses' Bluetooth headset connection, and you start it from your iPhone.
Do I have to take my phone out?
No. Hold the Action button through your pocket, even when the phone is locked. You'll hear a tone in your glasses and can start talking. Siri, Control Center and a wake phrase work too.
Why isn't it always listening like Meta AI?
Only Meta can use the glasses' built-in wake word. Iris starts on your command instead, which also means your microphone isn't streaming anywhere until you want it to.
Why do I need an OpenAI API key?
Iris talks to OpenAI's Realtime voice model directly from your iPhone. With your own key there's no middleman and no subscription; you pay OpenAI only for what you use. The app explains step by step how to get a key.
How much does it cost?
The app is free during the beta. OpenAI charges roughly €0.04–0.12 per minute of conversation, depending on the model; a quick question costs about a cent. You can set a monthly limit in your OpenAI account.
Which languages does Iris speak?
It understands and answers in 17 European languages, including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish and Czech, and follows you when you switch.
Does it work in my country?
Yes. Iris works wherever your iPhone has internet access. It doesn't depend on Meta AI being available in your country.
What happens to my voice and photos?
They go directly to OpenAI only during a conversation you started, and a photo is taken only when you ask about what you see. Nothing passes through our servers; we don't have any.
Does it work without the glasses?
Yes. Without connected glasses, Iris uses your iPhone's microphone and speaker, which is handy for trying it out.
Is there an Android version?
Not yet. Iris is built natively for iPhone, where the Action button and Live Activities make pocket use possible.
